Susan E. Melamed's Presentation (In English)

Reflecting on the Event Using the Three C's

After holding an event, it is always important to look back and analyze what was done in planning and execution. One way to do this is through theory. A theory we discussed in class was the three C's of event planning.
First is CUSTOMER. For this event, the customer was the parents of children with special needs. This was a large concern for deciding when to hold the event. It was important not to make the event too late at night when parents need to get home to tend to their children and go to bed for work the next morning. However, we couldn't have it too early when parents would be still at work or eating dinner.
The second C is CAPABILITIES. Part of capabilities is realistic goals. While we would have loved to have all the parents of children with special needs in all the surrounding areas, this was not a realistic goal. Similarly, it would have been great if all 35-40 of our vendors agreed to come, but this was also not realistic. It was important for us to set realistic goals so we would be prepared for what was going to happen at the event.
The last C is COMPETITION. We did look ahead to look at what other events were going on that would compete with ours. For example, we avoided the Thanksgiving week and also the teacher conference week. However, competition is always present. For example, a parent may have a sick child or they may be running late from work. Additionally, anything from traffic to cold weather could be considered competition, and we needed to plan accordingly.

THANKS

We wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in the PEPtivities Fair- it was a great success. We had over fifteen vendors, two different breakout sessions (the IEP panel and a presentation by Career and Community Studies of TCNJ) and a wonderful keynote speaker (Susan Melamed, see our previous blog post about her). The attendance was wonderful as well. We want to thank those who helped with the event and everyone who took the time to come out. Don't forget to keep checking back for updates on upcoming events!

The Event is Finally Here!

Tonight is our event and we all are so excited for it! We can't wait to see all of our preparations come together! We have already posted about how excited we are for our keynote speaker, but the breakout sessions are going to be so important to the success of this event!
We have the IEP Panel, CCS, and Value Options for these sessions!
